According to a report from Page Six, just like the Swedish officials previously stated, the US government has no sway in convincing authorities to release A$AP Rocky following his assault charges. This comes just one day after Trump tweeted his “disappointment” in the fact A$AP Rocky was still behind bars.
A spokesperson for the government wrote in their statement to Reuters that the rule of law applies to everyone in Sweden, and the government cannot influence legal proceedings. The former Prime Minister of Sweden, Carl Bildt, stated that it was the “right of the government” not to squabble with the US President.
As it was previously reported, A$AP Rocky, neé Rakim Mayers, has been in jail since the 3rd of July after he and his friends were arrested on the 30th of June for a fight in the Swedish capital, Stockholm. Daniel Suneson, the prosecutor in the case, said in the statement that Rakin Mayers is suspected of assault causing bodily harm.

Due to the fact Sweden doesn’t have the same bail system as the United States, all three men are still in jail. Trump has been lobbying on behalf of the rapper after he reportedly was spoken to by Kanye West as well as Kim Kardashian.
In a tweet from the 19th of July, Trump claimed he had a “friendly and respectful” conversation with the prime minister, and he was told that the rapper would be “treated fairly.”
Trump later went on his Twitter account to say he was “disappointed” in the Swedish Prime Minister, stating that he also watched the tapes and it appears as though the rapper was being accosted and harassed by the other men involved in the case.

Slobodan Jovicic, the rapper’s lawyer, claims his client didn’t do anything wrong. Rakim claims he acted in self-defense, however, the Swedish government has not taken these pleas at face value. Dates for the rapper’s trial are currently unknown.

Other Congressional Black Caucus members came out to defend the artist as well, however, as Swedish authorities have stated, the US government can’t influence their legal process.
