Twinkie was born on the 15th of November, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, United States of America (USA). Her birth name is Elbernita Twinkie Clark. Her father’s name is Elder Elbert Clark, and her mother’s name is Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. Her mother was a pioneer gospel singer while her father worked as a Reverend.
She was raised with four sisters named Jacky Clark Chisholm, Denise ‘Niecy’ Clark-Bradford, Dorinda Clark-Cole, and Karen Clark Sheard. She began taking music lessons at a young age, under the guidance of her mother. She also began traveling around the country with her mother, ministering and practicing three-part vocal harmony choirs when she was thirteen years old.
